About the Book:
The remains of a 17th Century witch, an MP found hanging above a five-pointed star, and three girls with powers beyond anyone’s control.
As DI Tanner and DS Evans endeavour to make plans for their big day, the chance discovery of Norfolk’s last known witch, tried and hanged by Norfolk’s infamous Witchfinder General, sparks a chain of the most horrific events, none of which Tanner seems able to stop.
My Review:
👮👮👮👮
Having not read Books 1-4, I was a bit concerned that I would be missing some integral information by starting with Book 5. I’m happy to say it is a stand-alone read but once you are finished, you will want to go back to Book 1 and start the whole series, like me!
The author does a great job of writing interesting Police Crime Thrillers. The storyline kept a brisk pace throughout, was well-written and not overly descriptive. I quickly was able to get a good understanding of all the characters without having any of their back history.
The crime elements throughout were very creative. I’m really intrigued to get my hands on the other books in this series to see if those crimes are just as creative. After reading reviews, I think the first 4 books may contain more back and forth commentary between the detectives and it sounds like possibly a lot of sarcasm, which I love in main characters. In this case, the pace of the book was very fast, several back to back crimes with some very serious consequences kept the story moving quickly along and there was less opportunity for conversation between main characters.
There was a very big event that takes place in this book. It was a bit emotional for me but only just scratched the surface. Had I been reading from Book 1, I think this event would have packed a full punch for me. That would be really the only reason I would suggest that new readers to this series start with Book 1, so as to be submersed in the story line before this event takes place.
Tanner appears to be a great DI character and I am eager to pick up more of these books!
