My Review
I was hooked from the start. I loved the team of Kendall and Adam and that they worked for different agencies and yet were able to coordinate and work together on this one. I also loved that it was personal for them. It added to the urgency of the story. Not that I believe there is ever a lack of urgency when searching for missing children, but that connection added a layer to the story. And what made this one even seem more urgent is the countdown of how long Kailey had been missing at the start of each chapter. Quite often I can’t remember the specifics of dates as I am reading, but this countdown left an impression on me, especially knowing the first 48 hours are critical.
The story was more layered than I anticipated. It kept revealing aspects that I did not see coming.
I switched back and forth between reading and listening to this one. Erin DeWard did an excellent job of narrating the book and keeping the urgency of the story.
If you are a fan of crime novels with a personal connection, this one should be on your radar.
