BLURB:

When Hannah Allen was fourteen years old, she was abducted by an elusive serial killer, Peter Harris. Intended to be his eleventh victim, she was his only survivor.

Ten years later, therapy and friendship have helped Hannah overcome the trauma of her past.

But then a body is found. A body bearing eerily similar injuries to Peter’s victims, complete with the numerical brand he forced upon his captives.

Soon it becomes clear that somewhere, someone is continuing Peter’s work.

Somewhere, someone wants Hannah dead.

Can she survive a serial killer twice, or has her luck finally run out?

MY REVIEW:

Kitching has outdone herself. This is her best book yet. I love me a good serial killer book and this really is one of the best ones that I have ever read. It’s intriguing, gripping, suspenseful, and it’ll keep you guessing right up to the very end. Needless to say, this book wowed me. Kitching’s style of writing makes this book flow really well and hard to put down. While most of the chapters are based in Hannah’s POV, we do get some chapters from the killer’s POV and that just made the book even better. Most of the characters were likeable and authentic, having some unlikeable traits as well. I really thought I had guessed who the killer was and boy was I completely off base!

This book also gave the reader a bit of an interesting take when it comes to victims of crime as a whole. I have watched true crime documentaries and listened to true crime podcasts. I never stopped to think about what those in the media (film makers, reporters, podcasters) do to get a story. How much that must affect the victims. This book really gives us insight to that and makes it real.

Lastly, I enjoyed the support system that Hannah had surrounded herself with. It’s important for everyone to know that there is someone out there to support them, even if it’s in the form of a support group.

Brava to Kitching for writing another fantastic book. Now I need her next book!
