Shannon is 34 years old, heartbroken, and moving back to her childhood home right before Christmas. She is down, to say the least, as she expected to be getting engaged in Paris! She felt like things couldn’t get any worse. That is until she slipped on some ice and a strange American man catches her. She can’t help herself but wonder about him, and soon enough she finds out as he gets a room at the Shamrock Inn. She continues to have embarrassing encounters around this American man. Shannon starts to warm up to him when she takes him for a tour of Emerald Bay and learns that this American man, James, is the long-lost grandson of her elderly friend, Maeve Doolin. Shannon is suspicious – she’s known Maeve since she was a little girl, and she is protective over her. Can James be trusted?
I feel like this book was written with the idea of this being made into a Hallmark movie. There are a lot of characters and a lot of relationships to explore. I really enjoyed the wholesomeness of this book, as well as the relationships within the families. It’s nice to read about loving, welcoming families. It made me want to be a part of their family! I do, however, wish there was a little more romantic interactions in the book. I understood Shannon’s hesitation, but I think the hesitation was taken a little too far into the book. I wanted to feel more angst and more spark between the two characters. Overall, a very pleasant read!
