This book has every element needed to make it a fast read and a page-turner for me. It starts with a cheating husband, goes on to a political campaign, blackmail, office politics, meddling but well-meaning mother, child custody and more. It takes place in 1963, which by age makes it a historical novel. Things have changed since 1963, but, oh so many things have stayed the same. This was the dawn of women making their voices heard.

Beverly is our female main character. I love her. She thinks on her feet, thinks out solutions for every problem. She is in a role which is not typical for a woman in that era. And, she shines!

Her mother is my second favourite. She meddles, she’s stubborn, she’s frustrating. I couldn’t wait to hear what comes out of her mouth next.

While much of the subject matter is serious, subtle humour is slipped in to keep the story from getting bogged down. Some of the dialogue is witty repartee between the characters, and it fits into the story very well.

This is my second book by this author. She knows how to write a great story that holds my interest. Very entertaining and enjoyable!

And, finally, I love the cover. It’s just so 1960s!
