“Falling’s the part that takes your breath away. It’s the part when you can’t believe the person standing in front of you both exists and happened to wander into your path. It’s supposed to make you feel lucky to be alive, exactly when and where you are.”
Romance writer January Andrews finds herself in her dad’s beach house, trying to write another book. Fiction write Gus Everett finds himself in his beach house, also trying to write another book. With each having writer’s block, they engage in a little competition: write the genre of the other person. For research purposes, January takes Gus on to places rom-com worthy, and he takes her to a death cult. Each are now motivated to write, and not fall in love.
This is now my second Henry book, and I absolutely loved it. I realize that there are only so many romance tropes, but she takes the tropes and makes you fall in love with them over and over. I thoroughly enjoyed the main plot line, but I think enjoyed the subplot as well. This book is about more than just a romantic relationship – it’s about relationships in general. Relationships between family members, partners, and close friends. Henry celebrates these relationships like none other.
Henry has a way of writing where I can put myself in the character’s shoes and feel all the emotions they are feeling. I appreciated the little shocking moments that were included in this book; it gave it something just a little bit more.
I didn’t want to stop reading this book, and I don’t think you’d want to either!
