Cat’s Picks:
I honestly think that April may just be my favorite month so far, at least in terms of BOTM choices. I had a tough time picking only three! If I have space in next month’s box, I might have to pick up a couple of the choices I had to pass by.
The Hunting Wives – My first choice for April absolutely had to be The Hunting Wives. That cover alone was more than enough to get my attention! It’s funny and thrilling, which is one of my favorite combinations. It’s a bit of a murder mystery but has strong thriller elements as well. Again, that is a favorite combination of mine. Take into account the great reviews on Goodreads, and consider me sold! – Check back on April 30th for a buddy review by Cat and Allyson!
Arsenic and Adobo – My next choice was Arsenic and Adobo by Mia P. Manansala. This is one of those books that caught my attention – and my imagination – right from the start. That’s always a good sign if you ask me! It involves breakups and murder, one of which all of us can relate to. It’s admittedly the second book in my selection that fits the mystery theme, but I’m totally okay with that. – Check back on April 23rd for a buddy review by Cat and Allyson!
When the Stars Go Dark – Last, but certainly not least, we have When the Stars Go Dark. Written by Paula McLain, it makes my third choice yet another mystery/thriller – so clearly I have a type. Still, the cover is stunning, and the description immediately caught my attention as well (a detective with a dark past gone into hiding). When the Stars Go Dark is actually not one of the five options for April, but it is a brand new add-on. – Click HERE to read Cat’s review!
Allyson’s Picks:
I was thrilled by the choices for my Book of The Month box this month. There were so many great options I just had to get 3 books.
Arsenic and Adobo – My first choice was Arsenic and Adobo by Mia P. Manansala. This is about a woman named Lila who just went through a breakup with her food critic ex-boyfriend. Break-ups are bad enough but soon things go from bad to worse. Not long after the break up her ex suddenly dies after a confrontation with Lila and eating at her restaurant. All signs point to Lila as the murderer. Therefore she has to start her own investigation to clear her name. The description of this one sold me on it! I love a good murder mystery. Plus there is a cute little Dachshund as one of the main characters in this book. I just couldn’t resist. – Check back on April 23rd for a buddy review by Cat and Allyson!
The Hunting Wives – Next, I choose The Hunting Wives by May Cobb-This is about a woman who moves from her big city life in Chicago to a small town in Texas. Just as she becomes bored of small-town life, she meets a socialite who gets her to join a group of partying women known as the hunting wives. This one is also a murder mystery of sorts, can you tell I had a theme? I love the idea of reading about this crazy, partying group of women plus I loved the cover! – Check back on April 30th for a buddy review by Cat and Allyson!
People We Meet on Vacation – My last pick was People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry- This is about two best friends who are completely different. Every year they take a vacation together for one amazing week and then return to their separate lives, her in New York City, and him in their small hometown. Until one year something goes terribly wrong and they end up not talking for two whole years. Can they fix everything that went wrong between them with one last vacation together? I have had Beach Read (by the same author) on my shelf for a long time but haven’t made time to read it. Still, I wanted to pick up this book as well. I am really hoping this book is very atmospheric, I want to feel like I am on vacation as well! This book just sounded like a lighter read to break up some of the heavier fantasy I have been reading lately.
