LindaAnn LoSchiavo has created a deeply moving collection of poems that explore themes of both trauma and love. Equal parts dark and moving, this collection of poems will leave you thinking and expand your own perspectives.

LindaAnn takes us on a journey through memory and explores themes such as love, loss, womanhood, and more. Through rich prose and metaphoric imagery, she crafts a world with vivid storytelling. The poems are light enough in length to be read a bit at a time and savored, but paced well that they can be read straight-through like a novel would.

This is by no means, a lighthearted read. It will leave you thinking & take you on a journey along with the narrator. If you are a reader who is sensitive to any specific triggers, you may also want to check that prior to reading, as topics such as eating disorders, loss of a loved one, and more are covered within this narrative.

I can’t help but mention that the cover of this book is also gorgeous. It’s the perfect complement to this emotionally stirring narrative.

I’ve attached a quoted passage below of one of my favorite poems from the collection.

“I’ve never grown accustomed to the pause
Between sharp lightning and its boom, the rift
Between the accidental kiss that slipped
Between my lips instead of grazing skin.

Awaiting night’s approach, I can’t predict
How far it might go, how it twists, explodes.
But science can’t touch the ineffable.
Emotions can be indefinable.”

Bonus Content: LindaAnn was kind enough to provide some further insight on the book. I have summarized some of our conversation here, as well as provided some additional information about upcoming projects.

Question: Which poem in your collection is your favorite, and why?

Answer: Though “Apprenticed to the Night” might seem like a “memoir collection,” it is not.

However, one piece is autobiographical and quite memorable and has been rewritten many times.

For many reasons,”The Grim Reaper as Houseguest” is my favorite poem. I plan to revise it again for my WIP “Dark and Airy Spirits,” based on the first-hand ghost encounters that have surrounded me with guidance from the afterlife.

In addition to her WIP, LindaAnn has a new release: Vampire Ventures – Poems by LindaAnn LoSchiavo
