Ashley Poston’s debut novel, Among the Beasts & Briars portrays a world of magic and blooms – a fantastical combination if you ask me! This is a novel perfect for those that loved the tone of Bone House.

Aloriya is all that Cerys has ever known. It’s a kingdom famous for keeping its people safe, for the kings and queens that are full of magic, and for the crown that enabled all of it. That is, right up until everything started breaking.

The woods are seeking to take back what was lost, and that means that everything and everyone that Cerys has ever loved is now in danger. It’s up to her, and her little best friend, Fox, to stand up and try to save the day.

I really enjoyed Among the Beasts & Briars – more than I expected to if I’m being honest. I loved the whole aesthetic of it, but it’s more than that as well. There’s a florid way in which Poston writes, and it resulted in an enchanting read.

I was immediately sucked into the story, thanks heavily to the theme and the setting. But it was the writing, and the characters themselves, who kept me coming back for more. By the end, I found myself wishing that it would never end. Now, I’m merely hoping that we’ll see another novel set in this world.
