This was a magical book. Not in the typical relation to magic with witches and “magic” but the magic you get between two sisters. From a matriarch keeping her family together. About a family healing amongst someone else’s diagnosis. After reading how the author’s father had a scary time in the hospital, I can understand all the questions that probably went through her head. I loved how Addie and Tessa contrasted from each other but ended up inseparable. I loved the male characters. Where’s southern men like that these days? Someone tell me!

The backstories to the main characters were deeply intriguing with the secrets that were behind them. The side characters were enchanting, except maybe one, but she does not last long. I love the found family that the main characters see in their actual family, it is one thing when they find it in someone else but to see their own blood in a different perspective is heartwarming. The matriarch in the family was vibrant and loving and she definitely added spice to the story. She seemed like a person who would welcome anyone in her home. This story had a southern feel that you wouldn’t find unless you got lost and ended up here.
