Climate Change is a huge issue for many reasons. One of the biggest problems with it as an area of focus though is the lack of concise, straightforward information about it. Everything is scientific and technical, and generally not accessible to the general public. This book does an excellent job of breaking down the barriers around understanding the content so that we can dig in and actually get something done. Because it’s such a huge issue, it can be overwhelming when we’re presented with information about “what to do”.
What I really liked about this book is that it tackles some of those overwhelming issues and breaks them down into smaller, more manageable, and more importantly more understandable, parts. The other part that really shines is the emphasis on community. This isn’t a problem that any individual can solve – it’s going to take all of us.
I think it’s best to go into this type of thing with the realization that you can’t do it all at once. Being able to step back and dissect it, to focus on smaller pieces at a time that can be integrated into our daily lives easily, and seeing how the actions impact our environment is a huge step in the right direction. This would be an excellent reference resource in the classroom, as well as for any individual interested in digging into Climate Change and what can be done to help mitigate the damage.
